Frequently asked questions

Everything about getting notarized online.

Is online notarization legal in my state? +
Remote Online Notarization is authorized in most U.S. states, and notarizations performed by a commissioned RON notary are recognized in California under interstate recognition (Full Faith and Credit). Our notaries are commissioned in RON-enabled states and every session follows that state's legal requirements. In California? See how online notarization works for California signers.
How is my identity verified? +
Two layers: credential analysis (your government ID is scanned and authenticated) plus knowledge-based authentication (a short quiz based on public records only you'd know). The notary also confirms your identity live on video.
What technology do I need? +
A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone, plus a stable internet connection. Everything runs in your browser — no downloads, no apps.
How long does a session take? +
About 15 minutes on average, including ID verification. Multi-document sessions may run longer.
What documents can be notarized online? +
Most documents eligible for in-person notarization: affidavits, powers of attorney, contracts, consent forms, vehicle title transfers (state-dependent), and more. Wills and certain real-estate instruments may have state-specific restrictions — ask us if you're unsure.
Is my session recorded? +
Yes — state RON laws require audio-video recording of every session. Recordings are encrypted, stored securely, and retained per state requirements (typically 5–10 years).
How do I receive my notarized document? +
Immediately after your session, you get a tamper-evident PDF with the notary's digital seal and certificate. It's produced by a commissioned notary following state RON law, and any recipient can verify the seal and certificate. Whether a specific court, agency, or bank accepts it depends on that recipient's requirements.
Can I get a refund if my document can't be notarized? +
If we can't complete your notarization for any reason on our side, you get a full refund. If your document turns out to be ineligible, we'll tell you before you pay whenever possible.
How much does it cost? +
Single Session is $25 for one document and one signer. A Multi-Document session is $45 and covers up to 5 documents in one session. For teams and repeat volume, the Business plan is $99/mo and includes 10 sessions per month, a dedicated notary pool, bulk upload, and API access. ID verification is included in every session.
What happens after I book? +
You receive a confirmation email with your exact session time, your secure video link, and a short checklist of what to have ready — your government-issued photo ID and your unsigned document. Join the link at your session time, verify your ID, sign live with your notary, and your tamper-evident sealed PDF arrives by email right after the session.
My state isn't listed / I'm in California — can I still use this? +
Yes. We serve signers across California — Our notaries are commissioned in RON-enabled states and perform your session under that state's law, and the notarization is recognized in California. California residents can use this today — see how online notarization works for California signers.
